The Department of Pharmaceutical & Organic Chemical Technology formerly known as Organic Chemistry & Polymer Division has been active as a specialized research group in the institute of chemical technology over 20 years. It is an inter-disciplinary, cross-department research group with dedicated academic members (including 10 members with assistant and associate professor ranking) and graduate students who conduct applied research for the benefit of the current and future chemical industry as well as cutting edge technologies.
The department serves to bring together researchers and by-research students to work collaboratively with the manufacturing and supplier industries, utilities, consultants and governmental agencies as well as acting as a point of entry for the industry looking for the innovative solutions, new technologies and educational programs.
Research conducted in the department in both experimental and pilot plant scales which are either transferred or easily transferable to industry could be outlined as:
-
Organic chemicals and pharmaceuticals Synthesis
-
Extraction and processing of natural compounds including
-
Herbal medicines (and standardizations)
-
Recovery of valuable materials from food industries wastes
-
-
Coloring agents and additives, Synthesis and/or extraction (including colorant, pigments, dyes …)
-
Polymers ,biopolymers and composites (biocomposites and nanocomposites)
-
Synthesis of heterogeneous catalysts and their evaluation in organic processes
-
Hydrogen storage technologies
-
New technologies in green fuel synthesis such as biodiesel
