This report is about the initial experiments for catalytic conversion of methanol to hydrocarbons. After a brief reporting on literature review about methanol conversion to gasoline, the obtained experimental results are presented. The used catalysts in this project were: gamma alumina for methanol conversion to dimethyl ether, and also HBeta and ZSM-5 zeolites, which all of them were commercial. Gamma alumina was placed at the entrance of the reactor in all of the experiments and in continue a zeolite catalyst was loaded. The ratio of silica to alumina (SiO2/Al2O3) for H-Beta was about 15 and this value for ZSM-5 zeolite was 23. The specific surface area for HBeta and ZSM-5 were 500 and 425m2/g, respectively. The relatively good results were obtained for H-Beta at 370oC and also when WHSV was 7.11h-1 (regardless of amount of gamma alumina) and similarly, the good results were obtained for ZSM-5 at 370oC and when WHSV was 12.9h-1. GC-Mass analysis for the organic product compounds which were obtained from H-Beta catalyst, show that the main formed compounds are cyclic chemicals such as: Hexa-methyl Benzene, tri ethyl benzene, ethyl penta-methyl benzene and dimethyethy benzene. Also, another compounds such as 2, 3, 4 tri methyl hexane and methyl cyclo-hexane were detected. In addition, when h-beta zeolite was used in the reactor, Hexa-methyl Benzene was formed in the exit cold product of the reactor as solid needle shape crystals. In the case of ZSM-5 very small amount of hydrocarbon compounds were detected in organic phase of the product.‎
