Laureates of the International and Youth Khwarizmi Awards Honored
On Monday, February 16, 2026, the 39th International Khwarizmi Award (KIA) and the 27th Khwarizmi Youth Award (KYA) were held at the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, bringing together senior government officials, distinguished scientists, and leading researchers from across the country.
The ceremony was attended by Mohammad Reza Aref, First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran; Fatemeh Mohajerani, Spokesperson for the Government; Hossein Simaei, Minister of Science, Research and Technology; and Alireza Ashori, Secretary of the 39th International Khwarizmi Award and President of the Iranian Research Organization for Science and Technology (IROST).
During the ceremony, the laureates of the 39th KIA and the 27th KYA were officially announced and recognized for their outstanding scientific and technological achievements, reflecting the Awards’ longstanding commitment to excellence and innovation.
In his address, Prof. Ashori highlighted the scope and prestige of the Khwarizmi International Award, noting that it encompasses four main domains: fundamental research, applied research, research and development, and invention and innovation. He explained that the award operates through 18 scientific committees at both national and international levels, covering a broad range of disciplines, excluding the humanities.
Providing an overview of the selection process, Prof. Ashori reported that following the official call for submissions for the 39th KIA, more than 500 applications from both Iranian and international participants from 31 countries were received. After a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process, 294 national projects and 118 international projects underwent detailed review, from which 24 outstanding projects were shortlisted and presented to the award jury.
Regarding the 27th KYA, he noted that more than 300 applications were submitted. After an initial documentation review, 242 projects were referred to the relevant scientific committees for expert evaluation. Ultimately, 10 top projects were presented to the jury for further assessment.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Prof. Ashori paid tribute to the late Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, a valued member of the Khwarizmi International Award jury, and the late Amir Hossein Feghhi, a distinguished laureate of two editions of the Khwarizmi Award, honoring their enduring contributions to the advancement of science and technology.
