IROST Holds Second National Event for World Microorganism Day

In celebration of World Microorganism Day, IROST, in collaboration with the National Center for Genetic and Biological Resources of Iran, organized a scientific event focused on “Clarifying the Role and Position of Microorganisms in the Health Sector.” The event was held online and free of charge on the same date as other countries, September 17, 2025, and participants were awarded certificates of attendance.

The event aimed to elevate scientific and public awareness about the fundamental role of microorganisms in human health, the environment, the pharmaceutical industry, and biotechnology. While microorganisms are microscopic, their impact on human life is vast. Emphasizing the scientific and economic potential of this field can contribute to sustainable development and the advancement of modern technologies in the country.

World Microorganism Day is commemorated each year on September 17 to remember the discovery of the first microbe by Antoni van Leeuwenhoek in 1683.The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of these unseen organisms in the life cycle, public health, and scientific innovation.

This year’s event featured not only expert and scholarly lectures but also presentations of the latest research achievements in microbiology, biotechnology, and medicine. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with distinguished professors and specialists, asking scientific questions and benefiting from the educational content of the event.
