<- ARS CUlture Collection (NRRL). Isolated from creamery, Champaign, Illinois, USA. Mates with Y-1205, Y-1138. Degrades whey permeate, hydrolyzes whey lactose, produces beta-galactosidase beta-D-galactosidase, produces killer toxin, produces L-methionine from whey permeate. Polarity: haploid, mates with ATCC 8651 (Y-1205). Carries two linear DNA plasmids, pGK11 and pGK12.
