Liver extract (see below) 100.0 ml (or liver infusion 1.0 g)

Yeast extract 5.0 g

Tryptone (BD 211705) 10.0 g

K2HPO4 2.0 g

Glucose 5.0 g

Agar 10.0 g

Distilled water to 1.0 L

Adjust pH to 7.2. For liver extract, add 2.0 L of distilled water to one pound of finely ground beef liver. Autoclave for 2 1/2 - 3 hours in flowing steam (until liquid becomes fluorescent yellow). Filter through cheesecloth. Save meat. Add a few particles of the liver, dried at 50C, to each tube before adding the medium. Commercial liver extract may be substituted in a 0.1% concentration.
